LEEP Procedure

When a PAP smear reveals abnormal cells on the cervix surface, our doctor might recommend a loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP). An electrically charged, light wire loop removes the abnormal tissue during the process. The minimally invasive procedure is brief and performed under local anesthesia in our office. 

Hysteroscopy 

A hysteroscopy examines the inside of the cervix and uterus using a thin, lighted, adjustable tube. Our doctor inserts the hysteroscope through the vagina. Hysteroscopy is used for a few procedures, including taking a tissue sample (biopsy), removing polyps, fibroid tumors, and locating a lost IUD.

Colposcopy

A colposcopy allows our doctor to view the uterus's opening, the cervix, and the vagina. The colposcope magnifies the images so our doctor can clearly see the tissues on the cervix and vaginal walls. The doctor will take a small tissue sample for a laboratory exam if needed. This procedure is called a cervical biopsy. The most common indication for this procedure is an abnormal Pap smear.
